Writing Meditation: Find Your Energy

Writing Meditation | September 1, 2026

This week, consider the energy it takes to write with meaning. Writers often say that they know they're writing with meaning when it feels like time disappears as they work. The writing feels addictive. They feel energetic. Discipline comes easily.

When I feel this energy, I often just think "What's next?" over and over. And keep at it until the feeling lifts. Then, I stop. I rest. And come at the writing afresh next time. “A word after a word after a word is power,” says Margaret Atwood. Pace yourself. Keep at it. A little writing will add up to something meaningful along the way.
