SUMMER: Ed Skoog's Describing Your Life Workshop II | Aug 27 - 31

This multi-genre workshop will assist writers who wish to go deep into what Toni Morrison called, in her Nobel lecture, "the vitality of language," which "lies in its ability to limn the actual, imagined and possible lives of its speakers, readers, writers." Through reading and writing exercises, we will concentrate on the craft of description, the techniques of characterization, and the impressionist approach, as described by Ford Madox Ford, "to produce the effect of life on the reader." This one-week course would be suitable for those interested in exploring these concepts in poetry, fiction, essay, memoir, drama, or any creative written medium, though the course will be led by a writer whose focus is poetry. Participants will write at least ten pages of new work in a variety of forms and styles. | Maximum: 12 writers
